Stop, Drop, and Roll, Baby! With Your Inner Critic

Today’s topic: Dealing With Your Inner Critic

Welcome back to the Stop, Drop, and Roll, Baby! ™ Blog, your trusted ally in navigating the tumultuous waters of marriage with grace and resilience. As a former battle-weary wife, I understand your struggles and am here to equip you with the tools to conquer them.

Today, we're exploring self-awareness and self-compassion as we learn how to effectively Stop, Drop, and Roll, Baby! ™ with our inner critic.

And just in case you’re new to our Stop, Drop, and Roll, Baby! mini-series read about how it all began here — it saved my marriage!

How to Stop, Drop, and Roll with Your Inner Critic

  1. Stop fueling the negativity flames.

Do you ever find yourself caught in a spiral of negative self-talk? That relentless inner critic that picks apart your every flaw and mistake, telling you what’s wrong with you?

If so, it's time to stop its destructive power.

Instead of feeding into your inner critic, step back and observe. Notice the patterns of thought that lead to negativity and consciously refuse to give your inner critic any more fuel to burn.

Say to yourself: I am not defined by my shortcomings. I am worthy of love and acceptance just as I am.

  2. Drop unrealistic expectations.

    Perfectionism is a harsh taskmaster.

But here’s your truth in the name of love: perfection is an illusion.

It's time to let go of the need for perfection and embrace all you are. Release the unrealistic expectations you place on yourself and your marriage. Allow yourself to make mistakes, stumble, and fall, knowing it's all part of life's sacred journey.

  3. Roll into self-compassion.

Now that you've stopped fueling the negativity flames and dropped the weight of unrealistic expectations, it's time to roll into self-compassion.

Engage in activities that nourish your soul and promote inner peace. Whether spending time in nature, practicing mindfulness meditation, or indulging in your favorite hobby, prioritize self-care and self-love.

Remember: You are worthy of kindness, forgiveness, and grace.

Learning how to stop, drop, and roll with your inner critic is a journey of self-compassion. You can cultivate inner peace and acceptance by recognizing when negativity arises, releasing unrealistic expectations, and practicing kindness towards yourself.

Until next time, remember to be kind to yourself, my fellow battle-weary warriors.
